Cyclone Alfred Response

Posted: 5 March 2025

At Visual Vectoring, we are closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Cyclone Alfred as it approaches Brisbane.

We are mindful of the complexities this event will add to the provision of Air Traffic Services, particularly for the Brisbane FIR, Brisbane Airport, and the TMAs along the eastern seaboard from Coolangatta to Cairns—many of which are administered from Brisbane. Air Traffic Controllers always play a vital role, but in moments like this, they are acutely aware of just how essential their work is. The highly trained controllers and ATS staff at Airservices will be instrumental in managing the response to this event, ensuring safety and continuity in challenging conditions.

The Visual Vectoring online ATC training service is hosted, for some of our clients, on servers located in Brisbane. We are hopeful that service will remain uninterrupted, but as a precaution, we are backing up data and preparing instances of our Learning Management System on our servers in Hong Kong and the US. If any action is required from affected end-users, we will contact them directly.

Our thoughts are with everyone in Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales, and we hope this event passes with minimal impact.
